The concept is facilitate audience participation by using gifting. The audience can gift a drawing on the wall and receive the gift of a mint cutting. Flowering mint plants are a great source of nectar for bees. The mint smells lovely and so adds to the multi- sensory nature of the installation.
An issue with this part of the installation is keeping the plants alive for the exhibition in the indoor environment and having enough mint plants for the demand which is an unknown factor. It will be an interesting experiment. The lavender hard wood cuttings that I took are not doing particularly well in the heat wave that we’ve recently had so they might not be usable. The mint though is forming great roots which I think are visually very interesting to look at.
The Growing installation will not be complete until the end of the exhibition and I am looking forward to observing how the wall drawing and the mono print changes with the audiences interaction. To facilitate audience participation I am providing source material that could be used including sunflower plants and photographs of pollinators.
