Lucy Skaer in conversation with Stephanie Straine.
Skaer’s Whale drawing interested me as she displayed it as an istillation with the whale skeleton. Also the drawings went round corners and off the wall onto the floor in places. She talked about “… the power of resistance in drawing”. An idea that drawing can subtly cause change.
I also liked her film of Elenora Carrigton’s hands. The importance of gestures that are drawn in the air. Drawing in movement. This moved me towards the film of the hands unpicking the climbing rope.
